Since their unfortunate bankruptcy a few years ago, it was difficult to find a King Cake in New Orleans that was as tasty. Three years ago, the Tastee Donut Company bought several McKenzie recipes and revived the classic McKenzie king cake complete with the bakery label. Tastee Donuts reports record sales of the classic style king cake. During Mardi Gras season, lines of people leading out of the bakery door can be seen waiting to purchase their beloved cakes. The original McKenzie's king cake has the consistency of brioche and is formed into a oval, sprinkled with purple, green and gold sugar and baked to perfection.
